- Protect cells against oxidative stress
Contains dried brewer's yeast
Selenium is found in the soil, in water and in plants. Within the body, it is present in very small quantities in the liver and kidneys, but also in the muscles and other tissues. This mineral is absorbed in the digestive tract and contributes to the proper functioning of the body by being incorporated via selenocysteine into proteins to form selenoproteins. This trace element is excreted via the urine.
In combination with vitamin E, selenium effectively protects the cells against oxidative stress. It plays an important role in immune responses (activation, differentiation and proliferation of lymphocytes).
Activation of thyroid hormones
Selenium also activates 5' deiodinase[1]: the enzyme that converts T4 into T3 (active thyroid hormones).
