Gamma-linolenic acid
This synergy of organic evening primrose and borage oil is appreciated for its richness in gamma-linolenic acid. This polyunsaturated fatty acid of the omega-6 family has properties for the skin, hormonal balance and acts on the modulation of the immune system (autoimmune diseases). GLA, detailed in numerous scientific journals, promotes the synthesis of type 1 prostaglandins (anti-inflammatory) to the detriment of type 2 prostaglandins (pro-inflammatory). The anti-inflammatory actions are mainly recognised in hormonal disorders, such as premenstrual syndrome[1], menopausal discomfort[2], reduction of acne[3] and help in case of eczema[4]. GLA has been clinically studied in other inflammatory conditions such as osteoporosis[5] and in reducing the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis with a daily GLA intake of 480mg (7 capsules)[6-7]. Finally, the administration of evening primrose and borage oils rich in gamma-linolenic acid to asthmatic patients inhibits the formation of pro-inflammatory leukotrienes [8-9].
